Sam Bremmer!

Samuel "Sam" Fritz Bremmer was born and raised in the sleepy woodland hamlet of St. Helens, Oregon, best known for the logging and paper-making activities of the Boise-Cascade Paper Company. The child of two therapists (a physical and an occupational, to be exact), one of his earliest memories is of wearing his dad's oversized t-shirt, standing next to a heater vent in his house as the shirt filled with warm air.

Sam's childhood was one marked by startling creativity, bizarre ritual, and hints of genius. The creativity: Sam masterminded the construction of a backyard sweat lodge from saplings felled in the lush Oregon forest and conquered the mighty Columbia River by means of a bicycle-powered raft engineered by him and his brother, Matt. The ritual: Sam and his cohorts once organized a "Shave Our Bodies" day which involved the removal of all hair from their bodies from the neck down. These same friends soon thereafter took a grueling, chafing 20-mile hike to Rainier, a neighboring town, then promptly drove back home. The genius: Sam was not only a high scorer on the American High School Math Exam (AHSME), but also appeared on the High 5 Challenge, a televised Oregonian game show, and won a jacket and tickets to a local amusement park, the so-called "Enchanted Forest." Furthermore, Sam once drank 52 ounces of French Vanilla-flavored "gourmet" coffee from a Circle K "Mighty 52" receptacle in a three-hour span, resulting in a set of jarring physical symptoms Sam describes only as "weird."

Music became a part of Sam's life when he joined the band as a trumpet player in 6th grade. His dramatic leanings appeared at an even earlier age, when he appeared in a local television skit show called Kids Off Campus. In high school, these interests converged as he participated in musical theater productions such as Alice in Wonderland and Godspell. Sam continued his musical journey into his freshman year at Stanford, joining Young at Heart and the Band. YAH's cheery blend of showtunes and oldies made a natural fit with Sam's personal musical tastes.

As a psychology/pre-med major, Sam anticipates a long and fruitful career as a neurosurgeon, general practitioner, or dermatologist. Still he hopes that wherever the road of life takes him, it will be somewhere near water. From braving rough rivers in a homemade raft to sailing vast lakes on a hobie cat, Sam has always found great joy in Neptune's playground. He confesses, "My life, my lover, my lady is the sea.
